Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 16, 2025
ClipApply ("we," "us," or "our") operates clipapply.com — a free job-application helper that tailors resumes and provides copy-ready apply kits. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed, where it goes, and what choices you have.
Summary
- Your resume and job tracker data are stored locally in your browser unless you export them yourself.
- We do not operate user accounts and do not store your resume on our servers.
- When you choose AI features, anonymized text is sent to OpenAI for processing. You are asked for consent before this happens.
- Optional analytics (Google Analytics) runs only if you accept cookies.
Information we process
Data you provide
When you use ClipApply, you may upload a resume (PDF or Word), paste job descriptions, enter application questions, and add jobs to the local tracker. This can include contact details, employment history, education, skills, and other information contained in your documents.
Data stored on your device
Parsed resume data, tailoring results, AI consent preferences, cookie preferences, and job-tracker entries are saved in your browser's local storage. You can remove this data at any time using Clear my data on the tailor page or by clearing site data in your browser settings.
Data we do not store
We do not maintain a database of user resumes, job applications, or tailoring outputs. Server-side processing is limited to the requests described below and is not retained after the response is delivered.
AI processing
ClipApply uses artificial intelligence to tailor resumes, parse difficult documents, draft cover letters, answer screening questions, and power related tools. Before any AI request, you are shown what categories of data will be sent and can decline or continue without AI.
Anonymization
Before resume or job text is sent for AI processing, personally identifiable information (such as your name, email, phone number, and similar identifiers) is replaced with placeholders. De-anonymization happens only in your browser after the AI response returns.
OpenAI
AI requests are processed by OpenAIvia their API. OpenAI's handling of API data is governed by their policies. We send only the minimum text required for each feature you request. Do not use AI features if you are not comfortable with this processing.
Features that use AI
- Resume tailoring and apply-kit generation
- Smart resume parsing (optional, when local parsing is insufficient)
- Cover letter generator
- Resume bullet rewriter
- Screening question copilot
Tools such as the ATS resume checker perform keyword matching entirely in your browser and do not send your files to our servers for scoring.
Job posting import
When you share a job link from LinkedIn or another supported source, ClipApply may retrieve the public job posting on your behalf so you do not have to copy it manually. This request is initiated by you, rate-limited, and the retrieved text is returned to your browser — we do not store it on our servers.
ClipApply is not affiliated with LinkedIn or other job boards. You are responsible for complying with their terms when sharing links or importing postings. If automatic import fails, you can always paste the description manually.
Cookies and analytics
We use essential browser storage (local storage) to remember your resume, preferences, and tracker data. This is required for the product to function and is not used for advertising.
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to collect aggregated, anonymous usage data (such as pages visited and general traffic patterns). We configure analytics to send pathname only — not job text, resume content, or share-link query parameters. You can decline analytics cookies via the banner shown on your first visit.
Third-party services
We use the following categories of service providers:
- OpenAI — AI processing when you opt in
- Cloudflare Turnstile — bot and abuse protection on AI and import requests
- Google Analytics — optional usage analytics (consent required)
- Hosting and infrastructure — to serve the website and API routes
- Job posting retrieval providers — to fetch public job pages when you share a link (only when you request import)
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your resume data for advertising or training our own models.
Security and retention
Data on your device persists until you clear it or uninstall the site data. Server-side logs from hosting providers may include standard request metadata (IP address, timestamp, user agent) for security and operations. We apply rate limits to AI endpoints to prevent abuse.
Your rights and choices
- Decline AI processing and use local-only features where available
- Decline analytics cookies
- Clear all locally stored ClipApply data from the tailor page
- Export or delete job-tracker data from the tracker page

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest version. Continued use of ClipApply after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
